The National Marksmanship Championship allows Cadets the opportunity to demonstrate their safe and proficient handling of firearms and marksmanship proficiency in a competitive training environment. The course of fire will be the standard Public Safety Cadets Center Fire Pistol Course (PSCCFPC). The firearm intended for use is the Smith & Wesson M&P9 M2.0, striker-fire, semi-automatic pistol for use from a fixed position at 15 yards, in slow, timed and rapid-fire stages on a bull's-eye target. Individual, two-man team, and four-man team winners will be awarded trophies, medals and prizes.
Entry in this tournament is limited to the first 500 Public Safety Cadets registered to attend the NMCRRS who have been certified by their Unit Mentor and a firearms instructor from a law enforcement agency or certified NRA firearms instructor as meeting competitor certification. The Unit Mentor and qualified Firearms Instructor must submit a Firearms Training Certification Form containing the names of each Cadet qualified under the Competitor Certification requirements.
Each Public Safety Cadet who enters the pistol championship must have received a minimum of eight (8) hours of instruction in, but not limited to, fundamentals of marksmanship, safe range operations, target scoring, firearms safety, nomenclature and proper loading of magazines by a qualified firearms instructor (certified by a federal, state, county or municipal government or the NRA) and completed at least two courses of fire on the PSCCFPC.
Unit Mentors must provide a Firearms Training Certification Form, PSC waiver, and CDJMTC Release_minor form for each Cadet in order for them to participate in the pistol competition.
While not engaged in the championship, Cadets will have the opportunity to attend seminars, active laboratories, judgmental training simulator, career fair and marksmanship skill building on the air pistol range. Cadets who successfully complete the participation requirements will receive a specially minted challenge coin to commemorate this event and also qualify for a PSC event achievement ribbon approved for wear on their uniform.
The event venue will accommodate the first 500 Public Safety Cadets to sign-up. Shooting positions are limited to 500 Cadets, who will shoot all in one day, during ten relays of 50 Cadets each. Meal times will be staggered and assigned to accommodate shooting relays. Food and Lodging is provided with the $85 registration fee and covers five meals and two nights commencing Friday, September 27 through Sunday, September 29, 2019. Registration will open on May 1, 2019 through June 30, 2019.
